3 things we learned from the Championship this weekend

The Championship threw up a number of surprises this weekend and we saw exactly that with a combination of the results and the league table as of yesterday.

The dogfight for the title is in full swing

It has been said for a while that the league title is between two teams, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion. We have seen proof of this as both sides have been exchanging places at the top of the table. This weekend Brighton went top for a brief spell and left the pressure on Newcastle to slip up but they held firm to come out as 1-0 victors away at Wolves. Still however there is only 1 point separating them.

Aston Villa are in danger of relegation

It may seem almost impossible to think about given they were one of the longest serving top flight members only 12 months ago but Aston Villa lost yet again yesterday at home to Ipswich. Adding to this Villa haven’t found victory since Boxing Day. The only thing going for them is they are 8 points clear of relegation and the three teams in the relegation zones have been especially poor this season. They will have to improve soon however to make life a lot more comfortable.

Norwich on their day are exceptional

It doesn’t seem too long ago that Norwich fans were calling for Alex Neil’s head but yesterday they put in an incredible performance with an astounding 5-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at Carrow Road with a couple of brilliant goals, including a 25 yard volley into the top corner from Jonny Howson. The Canaries shouldn’t be written off as candidates for promotion just yet.
