Coventry City looking to sign former Premier League pair

League One strugglers Coventry City are interested in signing free agents Carlton Cole and Aiyegbeni Yakubu, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Sky Blues are in a relegation battle in the third tier, and are reportedly looking to add experience to their attack in preparation for the run-in.

Former Chelsea and West Ham target man Cole has been training with the Hammers in recent weeks to maintain fitness, while Yakubu is available following his release by Turkish side Kayserispor last year.

Cole is a former England international; he made seven appearances for the Three Lions between 2009 and 2010.

He has turned out for an array of English clubs since he turned professional in 2001, including Chelsea, Charlton Athletic, Aston Villa, Wolves and West Ham United.

Likewise, Yakubu is also a seasoned international marksman, having been at the forefront of Nigeria’s attacking threat for much of the 21st century until he stepped down from duty in 2012.

He boasts an impressive goalscoring record for the Super Eagles, netting 21 times in 57 appearances.

Coventry supporters have endured a torrid campaign so far for their side.

They are currently at the foot of the League One table, and are thirteen points adrift of safety.

The club has also come into the media spotlight in recent months as protests against owners Sisu have been well documented in the press.

Perhaps the most memorable display of discontent came during the televised match against Charlton Athletic earlier this season, in which both sets of supporters threw small toy pigs onto the pitch in protest at their respective owners.

The Sky Blues travel to fellow strugglers Oldham Athletic on Saturday as they look to grab a vital three points over their relegation rivals.
