Nottingham Forest maintain interest in Burton Albion manager

Nottingham Forest have maintained their interest in Burton Manager Nigel Clough, despite placing their temporary duo of Gary Brazil and Jack Lester in charge for the rest of the season. As reported in The Sun.

This news comes after they had previously been turned down by Clough, who maintained his commitment to The Brewers earlier this month.

Former Derby boss Clough insisted at the time that the time wasn’t right for the move. However, he didn’t knock back the possibility of following the footsteps of his Dad (Brian) one day.

At the time, he told Burton’s official website:

“Having started this historic season in the Championship, it is only right that we should stay and continue the job of trying to achieve the miracle of keeping Burton Albion in the Championship.

Clough had earlier chosen not to follow in his father’s footsteps in a bid to help Burton beat the drop.

“Staying is the right thing to do.”

A club icon at Albion, Clough was responsible for their first steps in the Football League.

Their promotion at the end of the 2008-09 season paid much testament to Clough’s initial work. Despite leaving them halfway through that season to become Derby manager.

Managerial spells from Paul Peschisolido, Gary Rowett and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink were to follow at The Pirelli Stadium. and by the time Hasselbaink left to join QPR – Burton were top of League One and on course to win promotion to The Championship for the first time.

Having completed that story, Clough has insisted he will stick around to help keep the club at that level of football. However, it remains to be seen whether he will still be there come August.
