Chris Wood leads european charts

Leeds United striker Chris Wood may not be the most iconic striker in Europe. However, in terms of goalscoring, you’d currently be wrong to dismiss him in such a manner.

He has so far netted seven times in 2017 – more than any other player in the continent.

To really put his form into perspective – Wood has 21 goals to his name already this season. 16 more than the clubs second top scorer, Souleymane Doukara. The Frenchman, who joined the club in 2014, currently has five.

Monk was disappointed in his efforts to land another forward to play alongside Wood in January. Having initially shown interest in David Nugent, The Whites had to sit and watch as the former England international completed a (rumoured) £2,000,000 move to historical rivals, Derby County.

Then, of course, the long unsuccessful pursuit of Ashley Fletcher came to a close on deadline day.

Garry Monk will be even more reliant on Wood, after failing to land both Ashley Fletcher and David Nugent in the transfer window.

Wood, though, has just gone from strength to strength.

Not only is he a full 16 goals ahead of the White’s second top-scorer, he has also netted exactly half of their total goals for the season (42).

Wood, Himself, could have even left the club during the January window. Interest from the likes of Sunderland and West Ham was well-known at the time. Leeds, though, held firm to see off any interest and keeping him will be a massive boost to their promotion ambitions.

Will this finally be the year that Leeds make it back to the big time?
