Leeds United Team News: Key man back in the fold

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has confirmed in his pre-match press briefing for the Cardiff City game on Saturday that Kemar Roofe is available for selection. The former Oxford United man has resumed training after a minor hip injury forced him to sit out Sunday’s dramatic away defeat to Huddersfield Town.

This means that Charlie Taylor is the only definite absentee going into this weekend’s encounter with the Bluebirds, who are managed by former boss Neil Warnock. Gaetano Berardi that continues in the left back role, but having Roofe available again is a great boost for the club.

Monk has a plethora of options as to who he can select in the attacking midfielder trio to provide support to lone striker and top scorer Chris Wood. Souleymane Doukara is the man expected to drop out of the side to accommodate 24-year-old Roofe coming back into the side. He is expected to play alongside Pablo Hernandez and Stuart Dallas in these positions.

The former Swansea City manager said that the scan that Roofe had resulted in no serious issues,

“Everyone came through the Huddersfield game, we have a fully fit squad apart from Charlie Taylor.

“Kemar Roofe’s scan came back clear and he has been back training.”

Speaking on Taylor, who has been out of action for a number of weeks, is closing in on a return to action.

“We are very hopeful Charlie Taylor will be back out on the pitches next week.”

Saturday is the start of three matches in a week for Leeds, as the visit of Cardiff is quickly followed by Bristol City coming to Elland Road and then Ipswich Town welcoming the Whites to Portman Road on February 18th.
