Kell Brook looks set for Bramall Lane fight

According to promoter Eddie Hearn, IBF World Welterweight Champion Kell Brook is likely to fight at Bramall Lane, the home of Sheffield United, in his next fight this year.

The Sheffield-born 30-year-old lost to the Unified World Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin in his last outing in December but is eyeing up Bramall Lane as the location for his next fight against mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr.

“Both countries are still in play,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “We like the idea of staging it in the UK, but also Kell quite likes the idea of fighting in America as well. He beat Shawn Porter there, so if the money is right, he doesn’t have an issue with going to the States, but most likely Sheffield.

“We’re talking to Bramall Lane about it as well, end of May, 20th or the 27th. We have talked about a fight for a while there and I think this one makes sense.

“If we went to America, it would only be New York, or Vegas.”

Kell Brook is a big Sheffield United supporter and is often spotted in attendance. A fight at Bramall Lane would be a boyhood dream for the boxer and would attract worldwide attention to the League One leaders’ stomping ground.

The American Spence Jr has won all 21 of his fights since turning professional in 2012 and would be a dangerous opponent for the Blade.

Eddie Hearn is confident on wrapping-up the fight deal next week, “Purse bids are next Tuesday, so really we have to get a deal done by then, otherwise it will be purse bids,”
