Rotherham United didn’t deserve to lose match against Bristol City

Rotherham United interim head coach Paul Warne has told the Rotherham Advertiser that they didn’t deserve to lose to Bristol City.

The Millers thought they had a good chance of getting a win when they prepared to face Bristol City at the weekend as their opponents had gone on a terrible run of games without a win. Most of those games were losses too, with their run of defeats only ending when they got a 2-2 draw with Rotherham’s South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday during the week.

However while the game was goalless for a long time and Rotherham had the chance to go on and win the game, it would be the Robins who got all three points as Milan Djuric was able to head the only goal of the game at the 73rd minute mark.

It was a huge blow for Warne who is aiming to perform a miracle to keep Rotherham in the Sky Bet Championship, but he said that they deserved to win the game against Bristol City. He said: “Bristol have a strong squad and their subs made a difference,”

“It was a game of few chances but I never thought it would end goalless, they have taken one of their few opportunities and fair play to them.”

“People listening to me now will think ‘same old story’ but I don’t think we deserved to lose. There was loads of effort and endeavour and unfortunately we were on the wrong side of it again.”

“The majority of my lads performed to their limits and I don’t know how much more I can ask of them. They never gave up and if you could have seen them in the dressing room afterwards it would have been clear how much they wanted to win.”

“They are an honest group who continue to give everything for the cause and I think our terrific fans understand that.”
