Barnsley aim to sign Blackburn Rovers starlet for bargain fee

Barnsley are aiming to sign Blackburn Rovers’ Connor Mahoney for a bargain fee in the summer according to a report from The Sun.

The 19-year-old winger came through the Accrington Stanley academy but was soon snapped up by Blackburn where he is starting to show some promise and potential to break into the first team. He has made four appearances so far this season though his first time playing in the league this season came last weekend as the Lancashire club claimed a win over QPR. He also got some competitive action when he played for Blackburn in the EFL Trophy for their U23s.

But his contract is set to expire at the end of the season and while Blackburn would be owed a compensation fee should someone sign him on a pre-contract deal, it is only expected that it will be around £150K, a bargain fee for a player who looks set for a great career in the game.

And this has led to Barnsley continuing their interest in the player. The Tykes had tried to sign him on loan in the January transfer window but failed in those attempts but are set to go in again for him when his contract expires. They believe they will be able to pay the small amount of compensation fee that would be required and get a player who will be brilliant for them in the years to come. With Barnsley losing many of their key players in the last window, Mahoney will be a great start for their rebuild.
