Barnsley boss again linked to Forest vacancy

Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom has again been linked with the managerial vacancy at Sky Bet Championship rivals Nottingham Forest after the odds were slashed on the former defender making the move to The City Ground.

Latest odds offered by Sky Bet have seen the Yorkshireman go from 10/1 to 4/1 joint third favourite for the role with interim Reds manager Gary Brazil remaining the favourite for the job.

Heckingbottom guided his hometown club to a Sky Bet League One Play Off Final and EFL Trophy Wembley double success last season after taking over at Oakwell initially on a caretaker basis when former boss Lee Johnson left the club early in 2016.

The 39-year-old signed a 12-month rolling contract with The Tykes in the summer and Heckingbottom has guided Barnsley to within four points of the Sky Bet Championship Play Off Places so far this season. The South Yorkshire outfit are currently in good form after recording 17 points from their last available 27.

Interim Forest boss Gary Brazil’s hopes of being handed the post on a permanent basis were strengthened on Saturday evening when The Reds beat Aston Villa 2-1 at The City Ground. The victory was Brazil’s third in his four matches in temporary charge of the club.
