Cardiff City being forced to wait on legend’s new deal

Cardiff City are having to wait to see if Peter Whittingham will sign a new contract with the club according to a report from BBC Sport.

The 32-year-old midfielder can realistically say he is a legend at the Cardiff City Stadium now having spent ten years at the club putting in a lot of great performances. He was a key player as the Bluebirds got promoted to the Premier League and while he doesn’t get on the pitch as much as he used to, he is still a highly respected player at the club and one they want to keep him around.

That is why they have offered a new deal to Whittingham so that he doesn’t leave South Wales at the end of the season when his current contract runs out. However the club is deciding to be patient with the former England U21 international and will wait for a decision as he decides what the next step of his career is going to be.

When asked about the new deal, Cardiff head coach Neil Warnock said: “If they want to consider it for a length of time, that is all right for me. I think you have to show respect to Peter,”

“He has an offer on the table. It is down to them now really. I spoke to his agent again this morning on the way in.”

“I think we have to leave that down to Peter. Obviously negotiations are to and fro, but the offer is on the table and will stay on the table.”

“I said to them I am not in a rush, the offer is on the table, I won’t withdraw the offer.”
