Sky Bet League Two promotion chasers Portsmouth have completed the signing of defender Aaron Simpson from Wolverhampton Wanderers according to the club’s official website.
The 19-year-old right back has joined the South Coast club on a loan deal for the remainder of the season and could make his Pompey debut against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Saturday.
Simpson joined Wolverhampton Wanderers two years ago from non league outfit Maidstone United after impressing in the club’s FA Cup run. The player is yet to make his debut for Wolves however he has been a regular for the club’s development squad and has featured in the EFL Trophy matches in the revamped competition this season.
The youngster played for England schoolboys earlier in his career while he also featured for the England ‘C’ side while at former club Maidstone United. Simpson has a reputation as a hardworking full back who boasts a positive attitude in the dressing room and his larger than life character could help maintain the good team morale at new club Portsmouth.
Pompey are currently four points adrift of automatic promotion although they do hold a game in hand over the three clubs directly above them. Paul Cook’s side reached the Sky Bet League Two Play Off Semi-Finals last season and the club will be hoping to exceed that achievement this time round and gain promotion back to the third tier.
