Wigan Athletic sign Hartlepool United star in fifth transfer of the day

Wigan Athletic have continued to have a busy transfer after they signed Josh Laurent from Hartlepool United for an undisclosed fee as confirmed by the club website.

With the Latics battling against relegation from the Sky Bet Championship, they have been looking to add more players to their squad on deadline day. And they have been very busy as they had already signed four players today having signed James Weir and Alex Bruce on loan from Hull City, former Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan on a short-term deal and Eastleigh’s Mikael Mandron for an undisclosed fee.

And now they have signed another player after they signed Laurent from Hartlepool for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old midfielder completed a medical at the club earlier today and has now signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the club. He has been a key player for Hartlepool this season having made 30 appearances for the club not now he will get his toughest test after moving into the Championship.

After the signing was completed, Wigan head coach Warren Joyce said: “Josh is a player the club has been watching all season and we feel he has the potential to shine at a higher level of football, given the right environment and the time in which to develop.  He’s a powerful, ball-playing midfielder and we welcome him to the squad.”

Laurent, and all the other signings Wigan have made, could make his début in front of the Sky Sports cameras as they on Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.
