Bournemouth agree fee for Sheffield United teen goalkeeper

Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale looks set for a dramatic move to the Premier League with Bournemouth as the clubs have agreed on a £1 million transfer fee, according to Sky Sports sources.

The 18-year-old has risen onto the professional scene this season and made his senior debut in a 6-0 thrashing over Leyton Orient in November’s FA Cup tie. Ramsdale is capped at England U19 and U20 level and has attracted the interest of numbers top-flight clubs this month.

Everton looked to be leading the chase for the goalkeeper but it has appeared today that Bournemouth have been tracking Ramsdale and he looks to be set to join Eddie Howe’s team. The fee agreed upon, £1 million, will no doubt disappoint many Blades fans and Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder will also be upset to lose his back-up goalkeeper, having often stated his intentions of keeping all three senior shot-stoppers at Bramall Lane this season.

Ramsdale secured the second choice spot at the South Yorkshire club this term ahead of former number one choice George Long, who is vastly experienced at League One level.

The youngster may well be fourth choice at the Dorset club behind well-know names such as Artur Boruc and Adam Federici, therefore a loan deal away from Dean Court may be opted for by Howe and his team.

Sheffield United will have to rally the services of George Long to return to the match day squad after being isolated from the team following poor displays in August. Sheffield United take on AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
