Everton end interest in Sheffield United talent

Premier League Everton have ended their interest in Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale following a recent bid for the youngster, as confirmed by BBC Sheffield.

The 18-year-old entered the professional scene this season under new boss Chris Wilder and quickly secured his position as back-up goalkeeper at Bramall Lane. Ramsdale is favoured ahead of former number one keeper George Long, who has made over 100 appearances for the Blades.

The shot-stopper made his senior début in November in a FA Cup 6-0 thumping of Leyton Orient and made another appearance in the second round. Ramsdale’s sudden rise to professional football has attracted interest from numerous top clubs and Everton have shown particular interest.

The Toffees made a bid this week which was rejected but it is now reported that Ronald Koeman’s side, who have shown faith in youngsters this term and bought Dominic Calvert-Lewin from S2 in the summer, have not followed up on this bid.

Blades boss Chris Wilder has stated his intention of keeping all three goalkeepers this season and will be reluctant to allow the highly rated talent to leave the club. The South Yorkshire side have had a busy transfer month with the permanent signings of Danny Lafferty, James Hanson and Samir Carruthers in addition to the loan deals of Joe Riley and Jay O’Shea.

The Blades are currently suffering a minor blip having gone winless in their last three league games and return to action on Saturday after a weekend off. Sheffield United are one point behing league-leaders Scunthorpe and host AFC Wimbledon in their next fixture.
