According to the Birmingham Mail, Brentford striker Scott Hogan has completed his big-money move to Aston Villa from Sky Bet Championship rivals Brentford. It is understood that the player has signed a ‘long term contract’ at Villa Park.
The 24-year-old is also expected to be in the stands tonight when Brentford ironically entertain Aston Villa at Griffin Park tonight. Official confirmation will go through later today, but it is believed that Hogan will cost £9million according to Sky Sports.
For a long while it seemed as though West Ham United was his most likely destination after the player himself revealed he had his heart set on a move into the Premier League. Earlier today, all talk of such a deal fell through, meaning that there was a big race on to snap up the goal machine. Aston Villa go in quickly, got the player up to their training base for a medical and it appears to have gone swimmingly.
This is also good news for Sky Bet League One club Rochdale, who are due for a 30% fee of whatever Villa paid to sign the striker.
14 goals this season so far has resembled a very productive campaign for Hogan in what is essentially a mid-table side. Steve Bruce has been desperate to add another striker to his ranks this month, especially after Jonathan Kodjia headed away for the African Cup of Nations. Gabby Agbonlahor hasn’t scored a goal for over a year, plus Ross McCormack now finds himself out of favour with the club.
