Bristol City’s Matty Taylor deal overcame Bluebird challenge

Cardiff City had put their name in the ring to challenge Bristol City for the signing of Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor.

It has been widely expected according to reports today that he would be making the move across Bristol to join The Pirates great rivals, Bristol City.

Now, However, Wales Online are reporting that that might not have been the case.

This comes just a few days after Neil Warnock revealed that he was unlikely to sign anyone before the end of deadline day. Which now, of course, looks a likely prospect.

The forward has attracted great interest from the second tier after a successful two-and-a-half year period at The Memorial ground where he has scored 68 times.

He has been involved in some of the clubs greatest recent memories. That includes, of course, back-to-back promotions.

He was widely expected to join up with Lee Johnson at Bristol City.

It is thought that following talks with lowly Bristol City, Cardiff would have been blown out of the water. This now means that he will become the first player in over 30 years to make the move from one Bristol rival, to another.

Whilst Warnock has been understandably frustrated with the lack of transfer activity at the club thus far – he is said to be avoiding a panic buy. This could prove a smart tactic, as this may give him more money to spend during the close season.

It has been reported that Warnock may have to sell to buy if he is to make a deadline day signing.
