Leeds United to miss out on deadline day deal for Premier League forward

Leeds United are set to miss out on the signing of West Ham United forward Ashley Fletcher.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic confirmed in his press conference on Tuesday that Fletcher would not be leaving the club on-loan during this January’s transfer window.

Bilic has also confirmed that the Hammers have given up their chase for Brentford forward Scott Hogan, who has netted 14 league goals this season.

Reports emerged on Monday night that Villa have seen a bid accepted by Hogan’s current club, meaning a move to the West Midlands could happen before tonight’s deadline.

With West Ham now pulling out of the race for Hogan, Fletcher’s current club will not allow the youngster to leave on a temporary basis.

In terms of incomings at the club, Leeds United are looking to bring in Swansea City winger Modou Barrow but face potential competition from Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old has featured in 18 Premier League games for the Swans this season, contributing two assists. Barrow has also featured in the EFL Trophy and EFL Cup competitions.

The winger has experience of Championship football, having previously spent time on-loan at Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest.

The Mirror reports that Leeds United and Swansea City are currently in talks regarding a loan deal until the end of the season for Barrow.

Newcastle United are also lining up a move for the attacker, but they will only look to sign the player if a move for Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend doesn’t surface.

Leeds currently sit in 4th place in the Sky Bet Championship table following last week’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at Elland Road.
