Bristol City looking to pick up rivals main striker

SkyBet Championship side Bristol City are looking to raid city rivals Bristol Rovers for their main striker Matty Taylor, according to the Bristol Post.

The Bristol Post is reporting this morning that SkyBet championship outfit Bristol City are after striker Matty Taylor to bolster their front line with the club looking set for a relegation battle for the remainder of the campaign.

Matty Taylor, who has 19 goals to his name this term already, is on the verge of becoming the first player in 30 years to swap Bristol Rovers for rivals City.

Taylor was expected to leave Rovers on a free transfer at the end of last season but instead decided to sign a new two-year-contract with the Bristol based side.

It is understood that the 26-year-old striker has a release clause in his new contract with Rovers and that city rivals Bristol City have triggered said clause. The clause is set are the £300,000 mark, a low amount of money for such an in-form striker.

The SkyBet League One side are now powerless to prevent Taylor from leaving the Memorial Stadium should he wish to do so but have still tried in vein during the last 48 hours to persuade their main star from leaving the club.

With several other SkyBet Championship clubs still monitoring the situation with Taylor ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline, any negotiations could go the distance. However the Robins are now in the driving seat to capture the lethal forward from their fierce city rivals as they seem to be the only side to have triggered his release clauses so far today.

Expect this one to go the distance.
