Hijacked Hogan deal could affect Leeds United’s efforts in signing Premier League striker

Aston Villa’s potential signing of Brentford forward Scott Hogan could derail Leeds United’s efforts to sign West Ham United forward Ashley Fletcher.

Reports emerged on Monday night that Villa have seen a bid accepted by Hogan’s current club, meaning a move to the West Midlands could happen before Tuesday’s deadline.

With West Ham now fearing they will not get a deal done in time for Hogan, it could have consequences on Leeds United’s chances of signing Fletcher.

The Whites were confident of securing two signatures before the transfer window slams shut, with Alfonso Pedraza set to join the club on-loan from Spanish side Villarreal.

Now, there could be potential question marks over the West Yorkshire club’s efforts to bring Fletcher to Elland Road.

Fletcher has featured in 12 Premier League games so far this season but failed to find the net. His only goal has come in the 4-1 EFL Cup defeat to his former club Manchester United.

The forward has had better luck playing in Premier League 2, scoring three and assisting another in five appearances in the reserve competition.

Garry Monk already has Chris Wood, who currently has 20 goals in all competitions, Souleymane Doukara, Marcus Antonsson and Kemar Roofe as striking options but he is reportedly looking to add reinforcements during the January transfer window.

Leeds currently sit in 4th place in the Sky Bet Championship table following Wednesday night’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at Elland Road.
