It’s set to be a nervy deadline day for the Bantams faithful as Stuart McCall and staff try to wrap up last-minute deals in an attempt to bolster their squad for a promotion push in the last few months of the season.
The Bantams have so far brought in attacker Alex Jones and versatile winger Alex Gilliead this month but with the likes of Nathan Clarke and James Hanson going the other way, manager McCall is still openly in the market for more recruits before the 11pm deadline.
The name at the top of the club’s list is no doubt Carlisle’s Charlie Wyke. In the most recent development of this transfer saga, McCall told T&A reporter Simon Parker that the deal is “ongoing”. The Bantams put in a bid for the striker over the weekend which was believed to have been enough to trigger the striker’s release clause but things don’t seem to have been as simple as that in the potential deal.

Difficult to say much else but sounds like #bcafc still pushing hard…— Simon Parker (@ParkerTandA) January 30, 2017
If the Wyke deal doesn’t go through then McCall has been keen to reassure fans that there are other names on their shopping list, one of which is believed to be Preston’s Eoin Doyle, who they will be trying to bring in before the window slams shut.
While attacking options are a priority for the Bantams, it’s not the only position where Stuart McCall is looking to strengthen. Left-back is another position where options are needed after back-up left-back Matt Kilgallon was ruled out for the season this weekend following an injury in last week’s encounter with Millwall. Highly rated Barrow left-back Nick Anderton has been ruled out but the Bantams will be looking elsewhere for their man to act mainly as cover for Australian James Meredith.
Bradford travel to Oxford tomorrow night in their rearranged Checkatrade Trophy match and McCall will go with the squad. Meanwhile transfer dealings back in Bradford will go right up until the deadline with Chief Operating Officer James Mason, owner Edin Rahic and head of recruitment Greg Abbott working day and night to secure the players needed to bolster Scotsman McCall’s options for the rest of the season.
