Premier League clubs join race for Grimsby hotshot

A report from getreading indicates that Premier League clubs Hull City and Swansea City have joined the race for highly sought-after Grimsby Town striker Omar Bogle in a deal that could rise to £1-million.

Reading were thought to be one of the leading pack chasing the 19-goal frontman but manager Jaap Stam quelled those rumours by admitting he had not heard of the player.

The report states: “They (Reading) will now have to fight off the Premier League pair, as well as Championship rivals Norwich City and Leeds United who have joined the race.

“The player is expected to leave before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

“It was initially thought he would leave Blundell Park for around £750,000 but he is now set to depart in a move worth more than £1-million.”

The Royals are one of a number of Championship clubs said to be interested in the former Solihull Moors man, which includes Norwich City, Leeds United, Brentford and Nottingham Forest but, so far, it is only Rotherham United who have tabled a bid for the striker, their latest offer rumoured to be in the region of £850,000.

Talking to the Grimsby Telegraph, Mariners’ boss Marcus Bignot added:

Mariners boss Marcus Bignot said: “We have had one club (Rotherham) in for Omar, and we have just rejected their fourth offer.

“Omar is not for sale. We have rejected the offer 100 per cent.

“At this moment in time, one club has had four valuations, and we can’t even come to the table for any negotiations.

“His valuation is what people are prepared to pay for him. And if we did agree to the fourth offer, I wouldn’t want to go out in Grimsby.

“Omar is a goalscorer, and I’ve had him for three years so I know what it takes for him to move on to the next level.

“It’s more than about scoring goals. There’s more to it than that. I think he’s been effected by the speculation, and he’s only human.”
