Swansea City join race to sign Barnsley defender

Swansea City are the latest team to be interested in signing Barnsley’s Marc Roberts according to a report from The Sun.

Fans of Barnsley are getting more and more depressed during this transfer window as more of their best players get signed by other clubs. The first deal was a huge blow as Sam Winnall decided to move the short distance to join their rivals Sheffield Wednesday, while James Bree and Conor Hourihane decided to stick together by joining Aston Villa together in big money deals.

But one of the players that has been attracting the most interest during this transfer window has been Roberts. The 26-year-old defender has been in great form since the Tykes were promoted to Sky Bet Championship and now teams from the Premier League are hoping to snap him up. Previously, it was just Burnley and West Bromwich Albion that were interested in the defender but now Swansea have joined the race to sign him.

Their new head coach Paul Clement has been looking to sign new players to help the Swans stave off relegation this season, meaning they are prepared to match the £5m valuation that Barnsley have put on the player.

For Roberts, it would be a chance to reunite with Alfie Mawson, who he formed a partnership with at Barnsley as they got promoted last season but moved to Swansea in the summer. With Mawson being a great signing for Swansea, putting in a man of the match display against Crystal Palace at the start of the year, the South Wales club are hoping that Roberts can match him should he make the move.
