Wyke, Bradford City: Bantams make ‘firm offer’ for Carlisle striker

Bradford City: Bantams make ‘firm offer’ for Carlisle striker

Bradford City have already been involved in one striker saga this transfer window, the one taking Bantam James Hanson to Sheffield United and Bramall Lane.

However, according to Bradford Telegraph & Argus writer Simon Parker on Twitter (@ParkerTandA) below, they are now heavily involved in another striker wrangle, this time incoming.

It was only a couple of days ago that Bradford City manager Stuart McCall dismissed the links with Wyke as “pure speculation”, although Parker’s tweet suggests that things have changed on that front.

Middlesbrough-born 24-year-old striker Wyke has played for League Two outfit Carlisle since moving from Teessiders Middlesbrough around this time two years ago. He came up through the Middlesbrough youth set-up, earning his football education via a series of lower league loan moves to teams such as Hartlepool and AFC Wimbledon.

The 5ft 9in frontman has made 33 total appearances for Carlisle this season across all competitions, scoring 13 times in 25 league appearances for The Blues. Altogether for the Cumbrian side, Wyke has scored 31 times in 78 league appearances in Sky Bet League Two appearances.

At the moment it appears that both teams keeping both their cards close to their respective chests and markedly schtum on any dealings, according to the two tweets below.

With Bradford losing Hanson to rivals Sheffield United, the need for a striker to help maintain a promotion play-off push is obviously vital.

The Bantams travel to relegation-threatened Oldham Athletic on Saturday in a game where a win for the fifth-placed West Yorkshire side could see a potential climb to fourth place depending on Fleetwood Town’s result at home to seventh-placed Southend.
