Aston Villa complete deal to sign Barnsley star

Aston Villa have completed the deal to sign Conor Hourihane from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee as confirmed by the club website.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to Aston Villa for a while, especially as it seemed likely that Barnsley would have to sell their star man with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. But at last, the deal is now complete and any fears a rival may swoop in to sign him are gone as Hourihane as he has now signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the club.

Hourihane signed for Barnsley in 2014 from Plymouth Argyle and was a star player as they were promoted from Sky Bet League One. He has adjusted to the Sky Bet Championship very well as he has scored six goals in 28 appearances with the Tykes surprising everyone as they challenge for a play-off spot.

After the signing was complete, Hourihane said: “I’m really pleased to be here.”

“Aston Villa are a massive club and I’m looking forward to a new chapter in my career and developing further as a player under Steve Bruce.”

“I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone connected to Barnsley Football Club; from the owner, to the Head Coach, the backroom staff, and of course to the supporters who have been amazing to me throughout my time at Oakwell.”

Now Hourihane will be preparing to make his début for Aston Villa which could be against Brentford on the 31st January.
