Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth plot to sign Preston North End striker

Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth are trying to sign Preston North End’s Eoin Doyle on loan according to a report from the Lancashire Evening Post.

After having a successful loan spell with the Lilywhites last season, the 28-year-old striker made his move to Preston complete in the summer after signing for an undisclosed fee. However things haven’t gone well for Doyle since he made the move to Lancashire, as he has struggled for goals having only netted three times this season. His standing at the club was reduced as well after he was sent off in the loss against Sheffield Wednesday for having a scrap with his own team-mate Jermaine Beckford.

This means that Preston may be willing to let him leave on a temporary deal to relieve some stress on their budget and make sure he stays fit playing for another team. This has attracted the attention of both Bolton and Portsmouth who are both looking to sign the striker. Doyle could help Bolton in their attempt to get promoted from Sky Bet League One but dropping into Sky Bet League Two may end up being more appealing for him. He would reunite with his old head coach Paul Cook who gave him is break in English football at Chesterfield, and forming that relationship again may be exactly what Doyle needs to reignite his form.

But before any sale happens, Preston are going to make sure they are in a good position to sell. They want to make sure they have a replacement in before they let Doyle leave and they also want any clubs who want to sign him that they are willing to contribute a significant part of his wages.
