Bradford City: boss rubbishes talk of striker link

Yesterday, in a Telegraph & Argus article, one player was mentioned as being a potential replacement for outgoing Bantams striker James Hanson, who is nearing a move to Sheffield United.

Amongst the names put forward, the T&A mentioned something of a ‘left-field’ name in 29-year-old Anton Fink who currently plies his trade in Germany’s third tier competitionfor Chemnitzter FC (CFC). The 5ft 7in striker moved there five years ago from 2.Bundesliga side Karlsruher SC .

Fink is knocking them in with regularity this season for Chemnitzer, with 11 goals from 18 appearances in the league – and six assists to boot. He also has scored five goals in three games in the Sachsenpokal or Saxony Cup competition. In total, across his time at the third tier club, he has notched 101 goals and 43 assists in 191 appearances.

According to German media giant Bild, Fink has admitted that there has been contact between Chemnitzer and Bradford City. Fink said: “Yes, there is an offer,” before going on to say, “I’ve also thought about it. But first and foremost, it is crucial how the clubs agree.”

However, according to Bradford City manager Stuart McCall, there has been no contact that he is aware of and that any ‘interest’ is something born of an over-active imagination.

As well as admitting that reports of a link were ‘wide of the mark’, McCall also went on to say in a radio interview with BBC Radio Leeds that the reports were really mere speculation adding that, as with most speculation, it is often wrong in nature.

City travel tonight to Oxford United in the Checkatrade Trophy in a game that has been designated as going ahead after a precautionary pitch inspection at the Kassam Stadium.
