Leeds United: Manager reveals truth about Wood rumours

Leeds United’s attacking talisman Chris Wood is set to turn down a big-money move to the Chinese Super League, according to Whites manager Garry Monk.

This comes after Chinese side Tianjin Quanjian were linked with the player last week, with the club’s hierarchy viewing him as a viable alternative to fellow transfer target Diego Costa.

However, Leeds boss Monk has dismissed speculation regarding the New Zealand international’s future, according to a fresh report from the Express.

“Chris Wood in China? I have no idea where that one’s come from”, he said.

“Speculation is speculation. Everyone who’s here is committed.”

Wood has enjoyed a stellar run of form this season for Leeds, having scored sixteen times in the league for the Whites, and leading their promotion chasing campaign.

Leeds currently sit in 4th position in the Championship table, and look to be on course for at least a playoff place come the end of the season.

Wood joined the club in 2015 on a permanent deal from Premier League side Leicester City, where he failed to make a lasting impression in the top flight.

The 25-year-old also spent time on loan at fellow Championship clubs Ipswich Town, Brighton and Hove Albion and Birmingham City before moving to Elland Road.

Wood’s impressive goalscoring form as of late has led to him becoming the subject of interest from a handful of Premier League clubs, including strugglers Sunderland and Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion.

Leeds take on managerless Nottingham Forest tomorrow evening in the Championship, as they look to return to winning ways following last weekend’s narrow defeat to Yorkshire rivals Barnsley.
