Southend United: Winger trains with Premier League side

Southend United winger Jack Bridge is training with Premier League side Bournemouth, according to reports in today’s Southend Echo.

Bridge first joined the Blues as a nine-year-old and has since progressed through each stage of the Southend academy system.

Just over a year ago Bridge was told that his future would remain at Roots Hall by manager Phil Brown, but the midfielder has performed impeccably when given the chance over the past twelve months, thus earning him a potential move to the Premier League.

The 21-year-old made his Southend United debut in May last year, coming on as a 70th minute substitute for Glen Kamara in the 1-0 defeat to Bradford City.

But despite first team chances being limited, with the youngster making just one start and six substitute appearances this season, the young winger had impressed when on-loan at Chelmsford City in 2015 and 2016.

But with seven appearances for the Sky Bet League One club, Bridge could potentially move from one seaside town to another should Bournemouth lodge an offer.

In May last year the 21-year-old signed a new deal with the Shrimpers, tying him down at Roots Hall until 2018. There is no reason to disbelieve reports should Bournemouth eventually make an offer due to manager Phil Brown previously labelling him as a “bright prospect” as well as saying: “Jack has shown he is capable of stepping up, especially in our last two games.”

Southend United currently sit seventh in the third tier of English football, with just one defeat in 17 League matches.
