Reading to swoop for Jaap Stam’s former favourite

Reading are set to sign one of Jaap Stam’s former players with Adham El Idrissi on his way to the club according to a report from the Reading Chronicle.

Before Stam stepped into the dugout at Reading, he was the head coach of Jong Ajax, the developmental team of Dutch giants Ajax. While he was there, El Idrissi was one of his players and made his début for the club and his manager last season in the match against FC Emmem.

However it looks like El Idrissi’s dreams of breaking into the Ajax first team seems to be over after reports in the Netherlands suggest that he was released earlier this month and is now on the lookout for a new club. But it seems like he still has a fan as he is now on his way to Reading and looks set to sign for the club.

The 19-year-old striker, who can also play as a winger, posted a picture of a KLM aeroplane and an airport on his Instagram account which said ‘OMW to reading’, suggesting that he is on his way to the town to sign the head coach who gave him his break in this sport.

The uncertainty around this move right now is whether this will be a permanent deal. Because El Idrissi is still an unproven player having only played for the youth team of Ajax, he may only be on trial at Reading so he can prove that he’s worth signing. However because Stam knows him well, they may be going straight to a permanent signing.
