Bradford City: Bantams eyeing up German goal machine

Bradford City striker James Hanson is on the verge of signing for Sheffield United in the very near future, with Blades boss Chris Wilder confirming a bid and with Bradford City admitting that it is a near-done deal.

The bid from the Blades, thought to be in the region of £250,000 to £200,000, came hours before Hanson was to face Millwall, a game he was withdrawn from to give him some ‘thinking time’ about departing from the club where he has scored 91 goals in 335 games over eight years.

With Hanson’s impending departure from Valley Parade, Bradford eyes now turn to his replacement. According to the Telegraph & Argus (T&A), there are a number of targets out there that Bradford are considering such as Carlisle’s 17-goal frontman Charlie Wyke.

However, the T&A go on to put forward something of a leftfield name in 29-year-old Anton Fink who plays for Chemnitzter FC (CFC) in the third tier of German football – moving there from 2.Bundesliga side Karlsruher SC around this time five years ago. According to Bild, Fink has admitted that there has been contact between Chemnitzer and Bradford City.

On this, Fink said to German media giant Bild: “Yes, there is an offer. It would surely be negligent as a professional, if one does not listen to it. Such an offer does not come every day. I’ve also thought about it. But first and foremost, it is crucial how the clubs agree.”

Fink is under contract to CFC until June 30, 2018 with both parties having the option to extend the deal for a year. For their part, the German side have said that they do not want to lose Fink saying: “We have spoken intensively with the player. We told him we were not interested in letting him go. We will not sell him. “

However, Bild say that any deal for Fink would mean that the Bantams would have to pay a fee to bring him from German football to England’s third tier but say that this would be “in the lower six-digit range.”

5ft 7in Fink is banging them in this season for Chemnitzer, with 11 goals from 18 appearances in the league – with six assists to boot. He also has scored five goals in three games in the Sachsenpokal or Saxony Cup competition. In total he has notched 101 goals and 43 assists for his current side in 191 appearances.
