Coventry City sign up Derby County starlet

Coventry City have signed Charles Vernam on loan from Derby County for the rest of the season as confirmed by the club website.

The Sky Blues are having a disastrous season and currently sit at the very bottom of Sky Bet League One and are looking to do as much as possible to try and save themselves from relegation. With Russell Slade being installed as their new head coach months after sacked their previous manager Tony Mowbray, they are now looking to use the January transfer window to add t the squad to give them the best chance of pulling off the great escape.

And they can now boast they have one of Derby’s most talented youngsters at the club, at least until the end of the season. Vernam has played some competitive football this season after playing in three EFL Trophy matches for Derby’s U23 matches, but now will get the chance to play on a regular basis after moving to the West Midlands until the end of the season.

After the signing, Coventry manager Slade said: “We’re delighted to finally have Charles in the building. He has an extremely impressive scoring record at U23s level and has been on the verge of Derby’s first-team setup for a while now.”

“A number of clubs were monitoring the young striker so we’re especially pleased to have bought him to Coventry City.”
“Charles is clever and intelligent with his movement, and is also a clinical finisher. He can play as a No.9 or No.10 and will give us another promising option in attack.”
