Aston Villa considering loan move for Arsenal striker

Aston Villa are considering a move to try and sign Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom on loan according to a report from the Express & Star.

It was clear before the January transfer window that Aston Villa would be trying to sign a new striker, but their need to get a new forward has become more apparent over the last few weeks. They decided to sell Rudy Gestede to Premier League side Middlesbrough while tensions with the man meant to be their new star forward Ross McCormack have come to a head, with the Scottish international not showing up for training sessions and now being demoted to the youth team.

At first Aston Villa had made a move to sign Jordan Rhodes from Middlesbrough, but Villa’s head coach Steve Bruce recently said that they had dropped out of the race to sign him, though an unnamed club alongside Sheffield Wednesday had made a bid for him which could still be the Villains. That means they are looking at other strikers who could be the man to lead their line for the rest of the season.

And the striker Villa have got their eye on is Akpom. Surprisingly, it was decided in the summer that he would stay around the Arsenal first team squad and try to break into the first team, though that did not work out for the young striker. Now he is set to be loaned out for the rest of the season and with Bruce being familiar with him after spending last season on loan at Hull City, he could be the ideal addition to their squad.
