Championship club rule themselves out signing Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor

Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor has been the subject of big transfer speculation over the last few months and that looks set to continue now the January transfer window is open. However Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway has informed West London Sport that he is not looking to sign the goalscorer this month.

Sky Bet Championship clubs Leeds United, Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all been linked with the 26-year-old, who has netted 19 goals for the Gas this season so far. There was a point that QPR were said to be in the running for the former Forest Green Rovers front man, but that is no longer the case.

There is no doubt that ex-Blackpool and Crystal Palace boss Holloway is looking to significantly strengthen his roster as Loftus Road over the coming weeks to avoid being dragged back into a relegation dogfight. Whilst he acknowledges the talents of Taylor, he maintains that he is looking for a particular forward, and Taylor does not fit that DNA,

“He’s a very good player who belongs to Bristol Rovers and I shouldn’t talk about anybody else’s players.

“There are a lot of players who step up a level and can score. But it’s about the balance I need – the pace and power to move the ball from back to front sometimes if Idrissa Sylla’s injured.

“Have I got anyone who can do that? I’m not so sure I have, and Matty Taylor isn’t really that sort of player.”

Garry Monk, Dean Smith and Paul Lambert however may not be so receptive, and could be lining up moves for the striker. It is very much a case of watch this space regarding Matty Taylor.
