Returning Leeds United fan favourite set to play key game to trigger transfer clause

Leeds were found out defensively last night. It wasn’t that the players are bad players, just that they were made uneasy and with two out of position we struggled, it was tough to watch. Pontus Jansson is available to play on Wednesday after suspension, and that means the magic 22.

The magic number is 22 because it triggers a clause in the deal between Leeds and Torino that sees Leeds able to sign Jansson at any point after the appearance for around £3.5 million. Given that Pontus Jansson is arguably the best centre-back in the League it is a very tidy price to pay.

Jansson has become the face of Leeds United this season, no doubt about it. The Swedish international has brought the fans and players together and that cannot be understated with recent problems at the club. The Club has also improved hugely and other players have made a wonderful impact, strengthening the bond between all three.

The no-nonsense defending coupled with passion, pride and very good football have meant Jansson’s reputation just keeps growing.

There was talk that the clause was 20 games which his agent confirmed to be 22. He picked up his 10th booking of the season away at Cambridge in the FA Cup 3rd round and missed two chances at getting in that 22nd game, a win against Derby and the defeat last night to Barnsley.

The game against Forest is huge after we dropped points last night and Jansson was keen to remind the fans and players that we move on despite the poor result.

This is a common occurrence with Jansson. His passion and heart can sometimes spill into roars towards the Leeds fans and things like that have meant teams don’t like coming to Elland Road anymore. The atmosphere has grown again and the side haven’t conceded a goal at Elland Road in five games.

The return of Pontus Jansson will certainly help the chances of making that six on Wednesday. The visitors are in limbo but won on Saturday against fellow strugglers Bristol City. Leeds will want to produce a performance like Derby last Friday and continue to consolidate in the play-off places heading into February.

Trips to Blackburn and Huddersfield await in the opening week of the month and what better boost than a long-term deal for Pontus Jansson? After all, Pontus Jansson’s magic.
