Leon Clarke, Bradford City: Blades transfer deal to include striker swap

Bradford City: Blades transfer deal to include striker swap

Sheffield United’s bid for Bradford City striker James Hanson may include a swap deal for Leon Clarke, according to a Sheffield Star journalist.

It was reported today that the League One leaders have made a shock bid for Hanson, who has been out of favour at Valley Parade this term. The 6ft 4in target man has bagged just four goals in 20 games for Bradford and many fans have welcomed a move away for the once-fan-favourite.

It now appears Leon Clarke may be included in the transfer deal and could be heading to Bradford. Like Hanson, the 31-year-old Blades striker has struggled for game-time and has been hit with injuries. Clarke only moved to Bramall Lane in the summer from Bury on a three-year contract but has been tipped to leave Chris Wilder’s side after just half a season. The striker scored 18 goals last campaign but managed just three in 19 games for Sheffield United. The former Sheffield Wednesday forward found himself behind Billy Sharp and Matt Done and now Caolan Lavery in the pecking order.

Clarke has failed to find the consistency of goals he has shown through-out his career, where he has found the net over 100 times. A move for Hanson would have left Chris Wilder with six strikers at his disposal, therefore it would make sense for Clarke to move elsewhere.

Both James Hanson and Leon Clarke have been left out of today’s match day squads, heating up transfer speculation.

The two League One clubs failed to take advantage of Scunthorpe United and Bolton Wanderer’s postponement in today’s match day as Bradford and Sheffield United both drew at home.
