Ipswich Town are plotting a move to sign Steven Taylor according to a report from HITC Sport.
The 30-year-old defender was released by Newcastle United in the summer and quickly made the decision to leave the country. He was initially set to move to Turkey but as he was set to complete his move there, the military coup against the President of Turkey Recep Edrogan ended up scuppering the move. Instead he headed across the Atlantic and joined the Portland Timbers.
However that move didn’t end up working out. He only made nine starts for the club and after failing to settle in the USA, he has now been released and is looking to return to England. And Taylor may now find a new home in Suffolk after some interest came from there.
The Tractor Boys are looking to strengthen their squad in any way following a disappointing first half of the season which sees them stuck 14th in the Sky Bet Championship, with their head coach Mick McCarthy being put under a lot of pressure. Already during this transfer window they have signed Kieffer Moore from Forest Green Rovers and Jordan Spence on a free transfer, and now they looking to sign Taylor on top of that.
Despite Taylor having an ill-fated spell in America, he is still highly respected from when he was a regular for Newcastle in the Premier League. And if he can come into Ipswich and be a stable force in their defence, things could soon improve for Ipswich.
