Nottingham Forest set to receive fee for Bamford transfer

Nottingham Forest have received a tasty sell-on fee from Patrick Bamford’s move from Chelsea to Middlesborough, as reported by the Nottingham Post.

The striker joined Boro this week on a four and a half-year deal for a fee in the region of £6 million. Bamford has struggled to find the form he showed in his previous spell at the Riverside Stadium where he scored 19 goals and won Championship Player of the Year.

The 23-year-old is a product of the Forest academy and made his senior début in 2011. A month later, he joined Premier League giants Chelsea for a £1.5 million fee and it is now reported that a 20% sell-on clause was written into the agreement. Therefore, Forest are entitled to 20% of the £4.5 million profit made by the Blues meaning the Championship outfit will earn a £900,000 fee for the transfer.

The Nottingham Post have also reported that they believe former Forest star Michail Antonio has a similar clause wrapped into his contract with West Ham United. Antonio joined the Hammers in 2015 for £7 million with a 20% sell-on clause also being attached to the agreement. The winger is one of Slaven Bilic’s key players and has attracted interest from Chelsea, with West Ham working hard to keep Antonio and offering a new 70k contract. A transfer to the Blues would be a big-money move and prove to be financially beneficial to Forest.

The Championship club are currently 20th in the league and would be boosted by an extra source of income. Forest host Bristol City at the City Ground on Saturday.
