Aston Villa expect to announce second midfielder signing later today

Aston Villa expect they will be able to announce the signing of Barnsley’s Conor Hourihane according to a report from the Sheffield Star.

Earlier today, Villa were able to complete one of the most anticipated transfers of this window after Henri Lansbury confirmed his move to the West Midlands from Nottingham Forest. But it may be a case of wait for a bus and many come at once because they could be set to announce another midfielder signing later today.

The Villains are incredibly close to completing a deal to sign Hourihane and they believe that the details should all be finalised soon, allowing for an announcement of the transfer to be made either today or tomorrow. The Hourihane deal has been done in a similar way to the Lansbury move, with the fact his contract is set to expire at the end of the season meaning they could sign him for a much lower fee than Barnsley would have valued him at.

But despite the fact some reports have suggested Villa have only paid out £1m for Hourihane, they have splashed out on his wages. It has been reported that Hourihane is to be paid £28,000 a week, a stunning pay rise that dwarves his previous wage at Barnsley and priced out the other potential suitor Sheffield Wednesday out of a move. So when the former Plymouth Argyle man does finally confirm his move to Villa Park, big things will be expected of him so he can justify the outlay spent on him.
