Blackburn: second club shows interest in winger Marshall – bid rejected

Blackburn winger Ben Marshall has been one of the only bright sparks in an otherwise dismal campaign so far for Blackburn Rovers. Such is interest in him that the Lancashire side have turned down a bid from a fellow Championship side according to the Daily Mail’s Mail Online.

The bid, reported as being in the region of £2 million by the Mail Online, has come from Wolverhampton Wanderers who are looking to bring Marshall onboard during this window.

Marshall, whose contract at Blackburn runs out this summer, has made 22 appearances for Rovers, scoring one goal and adding one assist. However, with the Lancastrians currently languishing in 22nd place in the league table.

Signing for Wolves would mean that Marshall escapes the very reality of a relegation battle with Blackburn. Wolves sit eight points ahead of Marshall’s current team in 16th place in the table, 13 points shy of Sheffield Wednesday who occupy the last play-off place in sixth position.

However, lurking in the shadows are promotion contenders Brighton and Hove Albion who could top the table tonight if they beat Sheffield Wednesday. Should they choose to pounce, then Marshall would be thrust into the throes of a promotion charge towards the Premier League, something that might appeal to the former England Under-21 international.

22nd-placed Blackburn face a long trip to Cardiff City for Saturday’s game where a win, and a welcome three points, coupled with a Burton Albion loss could see the Lancashire side climb out of the relegation places.
