Leeds United: Club keen on move for Premier League midfielder

Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph, according to the Nottingham Post.

Leeds boss Garry Monk is looking to bring in some new signings this month to bolster the squad for the second half of the season.  With Leeds currently in third place, the club will want to keep their momentum going and push for promotion to the Premier League.

Delph is currently out-of-favour at Manchester City and has played only four times for the club this season.  Therefore Leeds may be in with a chance of signing Delph on loan so the midfielder can get back to playing regular first-team football.

Leeds fans know Delph well, with the player having started his career with the Championship side.  The midfielder made his debut for the club in 2007, before breaking into the first team in the 2008-09 season.  Delph made 51 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals as Leeds finished in the play-offs.

After Leeds failed to gain promotion back to the Championship, several clubs were linked with Delph and he signed for Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.  Delph failed to establish himself in the Aston Villa team at first and was loaned back to Leeds for part of the 2011-12 season.

However the midfielder became a regular in Paul Lambert’s side in 2012-13, making 24 Premier League appearances.  Delph became increasingly important to Villa and went on to captain the side on a number of occasions.

Delph then signed for Manchester City for £8 million in 2015, days after committing his future to Aston Villa.  The midfielder made 17 Premier League appearances last season but has not featured regularly under new manager Pep Guardiola.

Leeds United are still being linked with Norwich City midfielder Sergi Canos and West Ham striker Ashley Fletcher, but the return of Fabian Delph would top both of these potential signings.
