Leeds United said ready to bid £350,000 for Bantam defender

Back in December, website FourFourTwo (Australia) report that the Whites could actually be looking closer to home rather than distant shores for their next defensive recruit, with Bradford City’s Australian international James Meredith mooted as an end-of-season signing at left-back.

The Bantams’ attacking left-back is out of contract at the end of this season and has admitted that initial conversations over an extended stay at the Coral Windows Stadium have opened. On this Meredith said to the Telegraph and Argus: “I’ve had chats with the club. I think it will probably be something that will happen later down the line. I think they are happy with how I’m doing and there will be plans for the future.”
However, after recently selling Swedish defender Martin Olsson to Premier League strugglers Swansea Norwich City are also said interested.  According to a recent Daily Mail live transfer report, the Canaries are looking to replace Olsson with Meredith.
Meredith has played twice for Australia in the past, in World Cup Qualifying games in November 2015 in games against Kyrgyzstan (90 minutes, 3-0 win) and Bangladesh (57 minutes, 4-0 win).
Leeds United and left-back security
The current left-back spot at Elland Road is currently nailed down my starlet Charlie Taylor. He is injured at the moment and there are issues with whether he will stay at the club after this season. Taylor put in a transfer request before the season began, which was rejected, and has  courted interest from the likes of West Brom.
However, now the Daily Star have said that the Whites are, along with Norwich, looking to bring the defender on board. Rather than wait until the end of the season the Star says that the Elland Road club “are plotting a £350,000 January move” for the left-back with 26 appearances this term.
With there only being 12 days left of the current window, the last before the end of this season, Leeds are seemingly no longer willing to risk being short of cover. Should Charlie Taylor choose to leave Elland Road, Aussie international Meredith is an automatic slot-in to Taylor’s spot in the Leeds United side.
As well as having to deal with interest from fellow Championship side Norwich City, Leeds will have to deal with the Bantams themselves. Bradford are currently fourth in League One and, according to the Star, “want Meredith to stay to fuel their own promotion push.”
