Monk admits he needs a few more additions this transfer window

In his pre-match press conference before Leeds United’s big Yorkshire derby clash with fellow SkyBet Championship side Barnsley at the weekend, Garry Monk has admitted that he wants to bring in a few more faces before the end of the January transfer window.

With Pablo Hernandez joining on a permanent deal last week, Monk is keen to add more faces to his Leeds United side. Reports suggest that Monk wants to bring winger Sergi Canos and left-back James Meredith to Elland Road this January. Striker Ashley Fletcher is further still a target. Monk wants more depth should Leeds continue to challenge for promotion this season.

United are flying this season in the SkyBet Championship. Sitting in third spot, six points behind the automatic promotion places, Monk only wants to bring in players he needs. With Charlie Taylor still favoured by some Premier League clubs, Monk could bring in Australian international Meredith as his replacement.

Canos is less likely to Join Leeds however, admitting that he would prefer a move to Brentford this January. West Ham are reluctant to let striker Ashley Fletcher for less then their valuation of him too.

Reporter Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post twitted some of Monk’s comments during the press conference.

The permanent signing of Pontus Jansson is still of high priority for Leeds United and Garry Monk. The centre-back has been in fine form this term but will miss the trip to Barnsley this weekend through suspension.

With Luke Murphy joining Burton on loan, Monk is looking to add depth to his side. Toumani Diagouraga is rumoured to be leaving Elland Road during this transfer window too.
