Derby County forward joining Wolves for the season

Derby County forward Andreas Weimann is set to join Sky Bet Championship rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan for the rest of the season, according to reports.

Making only 12 appearances for the Rams this season so far, the Austrian international attacker has found first team opportunities hard to come by under boss Steve McClaren. The forward has only started one match this term, in December against struggling Queens Park Rangers, with ten of the 12 appearances coming as a substitute.

The 25-year-old’s only goals this term have been for the under-23s – he netted twice in the EFL Trophy, against Doncaster Rovers and Mansfield Town

Joining Derby in the summer of 2015 from Aston Villa in a deal worth around £2.5 million, the Austrian enjoyed his first season with the club. Making 25 appearances for the Rams last season, scoring three goals as County fell just short of making the SkyBet Championship play-off final, losing to Hull City over the two-legged semi-final.

The move across the Midlands to Wolves will see Weimann link up with former manager Paul Lambert, both spending time previously together at Aston Villa.

Paul Lambert has been keen to strengthen his Wanderers side in the January transfer window. After taking charge of the club in November after the departure of former boss Walter Zenga, Lambert has stabilised the West Midlands side and turned them into a hard working outfit.

With a big, hard working 1-0 win against Villa last time out in the league and a FA Cup third round win away at Premier League side Stoke City prior to that, Lambert is steadily making progress with his side at Molineux.

Andreas Wiemann joins Wolves on loan for the rest of the season.
