Young hotshot handed new Robins deal

Sky Bet Championship club Bristol City have handed a contract extension to youngster Diego De Girolamo according to The Robins’ official website.

The 21-year-old Chesterfield born hotshot signed for Bristol City in the summer after leaving former club Sheffield United and the player has impressed at Ashton Gate despite making just one appearance for The Robins.

De Girolamo joined Sky Bet League Two strugglers Cheltenham Town earlier this month on a loan deal until the end of the season and the youngster has made a real impact at Whaddon Road netting four goals for The Robins including a hat-trick in a 6-1 EFL Trophy victory over Leicester City last week.

The player’s contract with Bristol City was set to expire at the end of the current campaign however the club have agreed to extend De Girolamo’s contract by a further year to fend off potential interest from other clubs.

De Girolamo is no stranger to higher division admirers. While at former club Sheffield United, the former Italian Under-19s international was thought to be being watch by European giants Juventus although a move to Serie A did not materialise.

Bristol City clearly rate the youngster very highly and Robins manager Lee Johnson will no doubt be hoping that the player can challenge for a place in the first team next season.
