Cardiff City: Aberdeen reject second bid for Irish winger

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has today confirmed that they have rejected a second bid for winger Jonny Hayes from Championship side Cardiff City.

The Dons boss has today said that the offer, which was believed to be in the region of £500,000, was roughly within the same price region as the first but this time more money was put forward up front. The 29 year old struggled to make an impact in the English leagues but came to prominence by joining Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2009 and then Aberdeen in 2012.

His good form led to him receiving a call up for his birth nation the Republic of Ireland in March where he made his first two appearances against Switzerland and Slovakia respectively but didn’t manage to make it in to the squad going to France for the Euros in the summer.

As he is in his prime, about to enter the highlight of his career, he may want to have another crack south of the border, and then west across another border, to steer the Bluebirds away from the slight, unexpected relegation battle they have found themselves in.

McInnes has given an indication that he is willing to sell their star man for the right price, but also has stated that the decision isn’t up to him. He hinted this when speaking to the press. “There is nothing we can do, Jonny or myself or the chairman, it’s up to others to dictate things.” So really it’s anyone’s guess as to whether Hayes will be moving this window.
