Barnsley yet to receive bid from Burnley for star defender

Barnsley are yet to receive a bid from Burnley for Marc Roberts according to a report from the Lancashire Telegraph.

It is no secret that the Clarets are fans of the 26-year-old and has been eyed as a replacement for Michael Keane should he depart for Leicester City during this transfer window. Reports had suggested that Burnley were wasting no time in trying to sign Roberts as they had made a £3.5m bid for him, but now more reports have emerged saying that is not the case.

While Burnley, and their Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion, are indeed interested in signing Roberts, there has been no offer made and it seems like if he is to depart Oakwell at some point during January, he won’t be heading to Lancashire. It is seeming more likely than not that Keane is going to be staying at Turf Moor for the rest of the season and if he stays, the defending options at Burnley remain strong. As well as Keane, they have Ben Mee and James Tarkowski with Kevin Long set to return from injury in the next few weeks. With this available to Burnley, they simply won’t need to sign another defender.

While this is good news for a team that fears they could lose many of their top players this transfer window, it doesn’t mean Roberts will be staying in South Yorkshire. West Brom remain interested in the player and with no competition, they could be able to swoop in and sign him.
