Confirmed – Reading Land Liverpool Defender

Reading have today completed the signing of Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori for an undisclosed fee reports Sky Sports News. The defender joins Jaap Stam with Reading sat in the play-off places in the Championship.

Ilori was highly rated and signed by Liverpool from Sporting Lisbon for around £8 million pounds. The Portuguese defender has signed a deal until the summer of 2020 and will look to break into a Reading side that has Liam Moore, Paul McShane and Tyler Blackett all competing for places.

Stam is keen to build for the future and said, “And looking to the future, you need to seize the opportunity when players like Tiago are available, so we’re very happy that he will be joining us at Reading.”

The defender hasn’t had much game time at Liverpool and will be looking to kick on after making mainly cup appearances for the red half of Merseyside. He was loaned out to Aston Villa, Granada and Boudreaux during his spell at Liverpool where he held in high regard and expected to eventually compete to break into the first team.

Reading will be hoping the addition of Ilori will boost their chances of a high finish this season and add competition to a competitive squad. Stam seems delighted with the signing. His side lost their last league game at home to Queens Park Rangers and will be looking to put it right this weekend.
