Blackburn Rovers make move for Celtic defender

Blackburn Rovers are set to make a move for Celtic’s Efe Ambrose according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 28-year-old defender ended up falling afoul of the change in management as he was dropped by new head coach Brendan Rodgers following his appointment in the summer. It appeared that he was set to leave Glasgow as well when an offer from Belgian side Standard Liege worth around £300,000 was accepted, though Ambrose decided to turn it down and fight for his place with the Scottish champions.

But that fight is yet to work out for Ambrose as he has struggled to get a look in during the last few months, meaning a move away from Celtic Park is looking increasingly likely during this transfer window. And Blackburn, who are looking to sign more players to help in their fight against relegation, are interested in signing Ambrose.

While Blackburn would not be able to sign Ambrose permanently, and are instead seeking to sign him on loan, it would still be a great chance for him play south of the border. While the Nigerian has a contract offer from French side Bastia, it is believed that he wants to stay in Great Britain so he can get a British passport, something he’d be eligible for later this year after moving to the country from Israeli side Ashdod in 2012. But there is also a report that another Sky Bet Championship side may be willing to sign Ambrose permanently, so he may end up somewhere other than Blackburn just yet.
