Ipswich: Berra Linked To Hearts – Branded “Nuts” By McCarthy

Mick McCarthy has branded the idea that Christophe Berra could return to his old club Hearts during the trabsfer window as “nuts”. Sports Mole has reported that McCarthy isn’t keen on letting Berra go back to the Scottish Premiership.

Berra is out of contract in the summer and Ipswich Town risk losing him on a free transfer. Mick McCarthy isn’t entertaining talk of a deal that could see Berra move back to the club where he made his name as captain. The Scotland international is a regular in the Ipswich side which has struggled this season, the latest slip up a defeat to non-league Lincoln in tonight’s FA Cup 3rd round replay.

Berra is steady and reliable and is a typical Mick McCarthy player. News of the story probably went down well in Scotland where Berra is held in high regard by fans of Hearts. With Ipswich struggling for consistency this season and not much money to spend it will be important to retain the players they have until at least the end of the current campaign.

Berra will be able to move on in the summer if Ipswich can’t tempt him into signing a new deal with the club in the coming months. A return to the North isn’t the most “nuts” rumour at all in fairness and it isn’t surprising that Hearts would be interested in bringing the player back if he was willing to move. With Rangers back in the division and Aberdeen going strong there is a need for other teams to keep up and Hearts are in the best position outwith those three to strengthen.
