Leeds United: top scorer being tracked by Premier League clubs

Leeds United’s top scorer Chris Wood is being monitored by a host of Premier League sides, including West Ham United and Sunderland, according to a report from ESPN.

The 25-year-old has found a new lease of life since joining the Whites in 2015, and he is currently the fourth top goalscorer in the Championship having netted 14 times so far this campaign.

The Yorkshire club are said to have put a £15 million price tag on the New Zealand international in an attempt to keep hold of their star man, which has allegedly put off the two top flight clubs from launching bids as it stands.

Wood moved to Elland Road in 2015 after a two-year spell at Leicester City, where he made over 50 appearances and scored twelve times in total.

Before that, he spent time at Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, but was largely absent from the Baggies’ first team and was shipped out on loan six times during his four-year career at the Hawthorns.

Brighton and Hove Albion, Birmingham City and Millwall are among the clubs Wood has previously played for on loan, as well as having brief spells with Ipswich Town and Barnsley.

The player has also enjoyed a fruitful career at international level; he has turned out for his native New Zealand on 42 occasions, scoring eighteen times in the process.

Leeds have enjoyed a fantastic season so far under Garry Monk; they are currently third in the Championship and just six points off second-placed Brighton.

They take on fellow playoff candidates Barnsley away from home on Saturday, as the Whites look to extend their winning run after an impressive victory over Derby County on Friday.
